Do You Tip At Eateries?
by minimus inif you go to a restaurant, do you tip and typically how much?
if you were given a 90 minute time frame to eat at a restaurant, would that restriction limit your tipping to the waitress or waiter?.
also if you order a coffee and donut and pick it up, do you contribute to the “tip jar” that’s on the counter?

Well Luckyned, the reason 'not everyone knows this' is , believe it or not, not everyone lives in the U.S., or a country where tipping is expected. Tipping is a by-product of a time when ex-slaves did menial jobs and the boss didnt want to pay a proper wage, so it was subsidised by tips.
Owning a restaurant must be great if you dont have to pay your staff minimum average wage and yet, you charge the customer full price and expect them to compensate your staff.
How does it make sense that the tip is based on the cost of the meal or drink? A $100.00 bottle of wine takes the same effort to open and pour as $5.00 bottle, doesnt it?
When I go to a restaurant here where I live, I order the meal, eat it, pay my bill, say goodbye and leave. No stress over the size of the tip, and , the service is usually always fine- the waiter says hi and smiles, chats and does it genuinely , without putting their hand out. Sometimes we might round up the bill, but not often.
I understand that its probably not going to change anytime soon, and so- good for the wait staff if they make out like bandits in the meantime.

Derek Chauvin - The Right to a Fair Trial
by Simon inanyone following the derek chauvin trial?.
if you are actually following it, not just listening to the media, you will likely realize that there is a huge gap between what is going on in court and what is being reported in the media.. if the trial was fair, i think he should be acquitted.
there is plenty of reasonable doubt about the cause of death (his dealer doesn't want to testify because he could be guilty of 3rd degree murder for selling him a fatal amount of fentanyl) and even doubt over whether the officer even had his knee on the guys neck or did anything counter to what they were meant to do as per policy.. but is it fair?

Just thought Id post a couple of typical restraint and subject control technique videos.
These are exactly typical of how bouncers, law enforcement etc are taught.
Notice the knee in both cases is supposed to be across the shoulder and not on the neck. In practice, the knee almost always slides in behind the neck, its really hard to control, especially if the subject is resisting.
That's works great with a compliant partner, as in the video. Now imagine a big guy that needs to be restrained and is maybe getting out of control, or the cop is trying to make sure the subject doesn't get any ideas.

Hopefully someone from the U.S., or anywhere else that tipping is customary can answer my question.
Why do you have to tip?
If the restaurant owner is charging you full price for a meal and NOT paying his staff properly- why is it the responsibility of the patron to make up the difference? If the owner was offering some reasonable discount on the food and drink, then maybe thats different.
Maybe if the owner paid his staff more, they would always have an incentive to provide good service regardless.
If you think customer service is a lowly job that needs tipping then here is a thought: every business and therefore every job is all about customer service. Without happy customers, businesses go broke.

Rocketman, I can't say whether pressure just on the neck with a knee is enough to make a person lose consciousness. I doubt it is, you really need both arteries restricted in my experience. Being pinned is uncomfortable and sometimes painful but not usually life threatening, unless of course there are underlying health issues.
Cops don't often seem to have the nuance to know when to back off and go into first aid mode. They seem to have the mindset of subduing and shutting down, using too much force, probably because experience tells them not to take chances with their own safety.

I've had 20 years martial arts experience and for a blood choke to be effective, both carotid arteries have to be constricted. If it's done well, the person can be unconscious in 10 secs, or less. If the choke is maintained, after 40 secs, there is a risk of permanent brain damage. Having said that, any trained person should know how dangerous any pressure applied to the neck area can be and should be aware of the amount of time that they are keeping someone in that position.
I don't see a blood choke here. I see a guy full of drugs whose heart gave out under stress.
I feel bad for saying this, but if it was a white guy, I would have almost zero sympathy, and sadly, for George Floyd, his lifestyle seemed to be on a collision course where it was most likely going to end badly.
What makes the cop look bad here, was a lack of duty of care. George Floyd was not moving, or resisting, and the cop should have checked and rendered first aid.

Can Anything Good come out of America? ( Religious Wise )
by smiddy3 injohn 1:46 but nathanael said to him :can anything good come out of nazareth?".

Pennsylvania has an interesting history. I started looking into it because I came to realise so many religions seemed to be based in that state. Anabaptists, mennonites, amish, quakers, jews, methodists, etc all lived together because William Penn envisaged a state where people could worship freely.
Eventually even the good old JW's made their start there.

Animal suffering, Christianity’s biggest problem.
by pistolpete inhuman life is infused with pain.. but animal life is “define by pain.. animals in the wild are subject to endless torment from all angles of their existence.
wild dogs disembowel their prey, venomous snakes cause slow internal bleeding and paralysis.
crocodiles drown large animals in their jaws.. and animals also suffer from rampant disease, dehydration, and starvation, and have to contend with forest fires and floods, harsh winters and blistering heat.

I've read that one of the biggest causes of death in wild animals are problems relating to dental issues, like gum disease, blood poisoning etc.
Not a great way to go.

Rotator Cuff Surgery: Anybody Have Experience?
by GrreatTeacher inmy husband is going in on tuesday to have surgery to repair a badly torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder.
he is right handed.. he's 51 and is great about exercising and staying in shape.
however, while doing push ups, his shoulder just snapped.

Had a rotator cuff issue, but not so serious that it required surgery. I remember it was so difficult to find a comfortable position to sleep in.
I tried plasma replacement therapy and it seemed to help. You have some of your own blood taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is then injected to the injured area.

"I dont care one bit if a mask is 99% effective or 2% effective, if you want to wear one (or two or three) masks, knock yourself out, but f off with telling me what to do. Educate, inform, plead if you want, but mandates dont fly here."
Its health experts advising your government, and other governments around the world to take these precautions- its not the government making it up so they can take your rights away. I understand your feelings about being told what to do, I doubt anyone, anywhere in the world trusts their political leaders 100%, but this is a health issue.
Even if the death rate was 80%, there would still be some people that wouldn't believe there was a health crisis.
